Lakers Begin Season With Solid Run At St. Francis Invite

CHANNAHON, Ill. – The Roosevelt cross country program opened its fall season with four solid individual efforts at the St. Francis Invite at Channahon Community Park.

Although the Lakers did not score any team points in the event, four of their key returners raced against a field that included three rivals from the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III University of Chicago. Angie Delgado was the only female who raced for Roosevelt, finishing a respectable 47th place in a time of 23 minutes and 9 seconds.

The men sent three runners onto the course, led by senior Brandon Saavedra, who finished 49th in 17 minutes and 24 seconds. Dominic Gamez was less than a minute behind in 18 minutes and 12 seconds to finish 62nd while Aaron Rodriguez opened his campaign in 20 minutes and 11 seconds for 81st overall.

Roosevelt cross country returns to race on Sept. 15 at the ONU Midwest Classic in Bourbonnais.
