
Roosevelt Attack Misfires At Trinity Christian
PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Roosevelt's offense struggled to click into gear during the Lakers' straight-sets setback at Trinity Christian on Tuesday in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match.
The Lakers' hitting percentage decreased as the match wore on as Roosevelt (9-15, 1-7 CCAC) finished in the negatives for the first time all season. The Trolls jumped out to a big early lead in cruising to a 25-15 win in the first set then took the final five points of the second set to claim it 25-20. Roosevelt battled back from an early deficit in the third set, but still fell 25-18 to finish the sweep.
The biggest positive of the night for Roosevelt was its defense, which had nine blocks in the match. Lachlan Diamond, Terrance Young Jr. and Mark Zmojdzin all had four blocks in the contest and Diego Esquivel added three stuffs as well. Miguel Mendez Palencia led the Lakers with five digs while Piero Eletto added four digs to help the receiving game.
Zmojdzin's seven kills were the most on Roosevelt, and only he and Esquivel finished with positive hitting percentages among those with at least five attacks. Esquivel had four kills and Young added three kills himself while Daniel Magana-Huynh dished out 16 assists.
With the loss, Roosevelt must win its final two matches of the season in order to qualify for the CCAC Tournament later this month. The Lakers are in seventh place currently, one win behind Viterbo, which currently occupies the final spot in the postseason.
The Lakers will try to keep their postseason hopes alive Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Olivet Nazarene.
