Lakers Test No. 7 Georgetown In Non-Conference Battle
CHICAGO – Roosevelt tested itself against one of the nation's top programs Thursday night, and put up a tough battle before falling in three sets to No. 7 Georgetown in non-conference action at the Goodman Center.
The Lakers (9-14) continued to improve as the match progressed, shaking off a 25-11 first set to really push the Tigers in the final two sets. Georgetown had to wait until late in the second set to pull away for a 25-17 victory as Roosevelt was within a point or two until the Tigers rattled off six of the final seven points. The third set was the tightest of the match and the Lakers maintained a slight advantage for parts of the set, including at 22-21 and 23-22, but Georgetown finished out the set 25-23 to complete the sweep.
Junior Andrea DiPaola and senior Mark Zmojdzin both had seven kills to lead the Lakers' attack with DiPaola hittin an efficient .312 in the setback. Daniel Magana Huynh dished out 19 assists in his first start of the season while DiPaola also served up two of Roosevelt's four aces in the match. Miguel Mendez Palencia led the Roosevelt defense with six digs while DiPaola and Terrence Young Jr. both had two blocks.
The Lakers return to action Tuesday, diving back into Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 7 p.m. match at Trinity Christian. Roosevelt swept the Trolls in straight sets in their previous meeting this season at the Goodman Center on Feb. 26.
