Lakers Can't Overcome Calumet St. Joseph in CCAC Conference Men's Volleyball Match

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University men's volleyball team lost a CCAC Conference match to Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in straight sets on Monday, February 21 at the Goodman Center.  The loss dropped the Lakers conference record to 0-4 and their overall record to 0-10 on the year.

The Lakers took a 4-2 lead to begin the opening set, but the Crimson Wave came back and the two teams were tied at 7-7.  Calumet St. Joseph then scored four straight points to go ahead 11-7 and held the lead for the rest of the set, winning 25-20.

Terrance Young Jr. registered two kills to begin the second set and the Lakers led 3-0 before extending that margin to 11-6.  However, the Crimson Wave answered to tie the set up at 16-16 and took its first lead at 17-16.  A Kayan Abdou kill tied things up again at 17-17, but Calumet St. Joseph scored the next three points to lead 20-17 and went on to win 25-22.

In the third set, the Lakers once again took an early lead and built a 9-4 advantage with Shawn McCarthy tallying two kills, while Young, Abdou, and Axel Garcia each had one kill during the run.  The Crimson Wave fought back like they did in the previous two sets, scoring six consecutive points to lead 10-9.  The visitors continued their momentum, building on their lead and winning the set 25-18 to sweep the conference match.
