Lakers Drop CCAC Conference Match to 15th Ranked St. Xavier in Men's Volleyball
CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University men's volleyball team traveled to the south side of Chicago to take on 15th ranked St. Xavier University, dropping the CCAC Conference match in straight sets at the Shannon Center. The Lakers are now 0-2 in conference play and 0-8 overall this season.
The Lakers started the first set strongly, opening up a 7-4 advantage and leading 10-9 before the Cougars scored five straights points to jump ahead 14-10. St. Xavier continued to pull away, winning 25-14 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
St. Xavier raced out to a 7-3 lead in the second set, but Roosevelt made a run to cut the deficit to 8-7. However, the Cougars took over the stanza to win once again by a 25-14 margin.
The Cougars scored the first four points of the third set and rolled out to a commanding 23-7 lead. The Lakers then got a kill from Shawn McCarthy and three straight service aces by Jack Rothwell to build momentum, pulling to within 23-13, but the deficit was too much to overcome with RU falling 25-16 to drop the match.
