Men's Volleyball Opens Judson University Invite With Losses to Goshen & Rockford

ELGIN, Ill. – The Roosevelt University men's volleyball team competed in the Judson University Invite on Friday, February 11, losing to both Goshen College (Ind.) and Rockford University in straights sets at the Lindner Fitness Center.  The losses dropped the Lakers record to 0-5 on the year.

In the first match of the day, Goshen jumped out to a 6-1 advantage and pushed that lead to 9-3 in the opening set before the Lakers came back to cut the deficit to 10-6.  However, Goshen extended its lead to 18-10 and went on the win 25-16.  The Maple Leafs also kept up the momentum in the next two sets, rolling to 25-14 and 25-6 wins to sweep the match.

Later in the day, the Lakers squared off against NCAA Division III Rockford University and the two teams went back and forth in the opening set.  The two teams were tied at 18-18 when Rockford scored the next four points to go up 22-18.  Roosevelt came back to cut the margin to 24-23, and then fought off two set points before falling 26-24.

The second set was a tight one early on with the Lakers trailing 16-15 before the Regents scored four consecutive points to lead 20-16.  Roosevelt pulled to with 23-20, but Rockford scored the next two points to win 25-20 to take a 2-0 match lead.

Rockford took a 10-4 lead in the third set, but the Lakers came back to cut the margin to 10-8.  The Regents took control again, pushing their lead to 18-12 and winning 25-20 to win the match in straight sets.
