Men's Volleyball Takes Unbeaten Cardinal Stritch to the Limit but Falls in Five Sets

MILWAUKEE – The Roosevelt University men's volleyball team went toe-to-toe with unbeaten Cardinal Stritch University, losing the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match in five sets on the road in Milwaukee on Monday, Feb. 22.

After dropping the opening set 25-19, the Lakers jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the second set, but had to hold off a Wolves comeback attempt as the RU lead shrank to just a point at 21-20. However, the Lakers scored four of the next five points to even the match at 1-1.

In the third set, the Lakers once again vaulted ahead and led by as many as six points before Cardinal Stritch stormed back to even things up at 17-17. The two teams were tied five more times in the set, but the Wolves came out on top with a 25-23 win to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.

The Lakers fell behind by four points in the fourth set, but managed to battle back to take a 15-14 lead. The rest of the set followed the format of the third set with the two teams exchanging the lead until the very end when the Lakers outlasted the Wolves for the 25-23 win to send the match to a fifth and deciding set.

In the deciding set, the Wolves broke an 11-11 tie and scored the match's final four points to prevail and remain undefeated after six matches.
