RU Smashes St. Francis In CCAC Quarterfinals
CHICAGO – Roosevelt made quick work of St. Francis to advance to the semifinals of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis tournament on Monday at XS Tennis.
The third-seeded Lakers already led 2-0 in the match before it even began after the sixth-seeded Fighting Saints defaulted at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions. St. Francis also didn't field a duo at No. 3 doubles, so Roosevelt was able to go up 3-0 in the match when Juan Pablo Espinosa and Victor Dorojan won 6-0 at No. 2. Not to be outmatched, Yazid Benchegra and Justus Peters were up 4-1 in their match at No. 1 doubles before it was stopped.
Peters, though, did get the chance to seal the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and the other three matches on the court stopped shortly thereafter. Dorojan had already claimed the first set 6-4 and was up 1-0 in the second set at No. 1 singles when the match was called. Benchegra took the opening set 6-2 and was on serve in the second set when his match at No. 2 was stopped, and Espinosa was up 6-1, 3-0 at No. 4 singles when the action was halted.
The Lakers will advance to face No. 2 seed Judson on Wednesday in Elgin.
