Lakers Blanked By No. 19 Cardinal Stritch

CHICAGO – Roosevelt struggled to find a footing Saturday in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup with No. 19 Cardinal Stritch, falling 4-0 at XS Tennis in Chicago.

The doubles play had been a strength for the Lakers this season, but the visiting Wolves made quick work of Roosevelt in the two contested matchups. Conor Pacelli and Sebastien Valdenaire were blanked 6-0 in the top doubles spot then Jorge Gutierrez and Justin Magale managed just one game in a 6-1 defeat at No. 2.

Defaults at fifth and sixth singles meant the Wolves were one match away from victory, and that occurred at No. 3 singles. Gutierrez struggled in a 6-0, 6-0 loss to officially end the match, but two of the other three first sets played also ended 6-0. Pacelli was down 6-0, 3-0 at the top singles position when the dual was concluded while Magale was trailing 6-0, 2-1 at that moment. Valdenaire was the only Lakers player who managed to win a game in the first set, but was still down 6-2, 1-0 when the match concluded.

The Lakers return to the courts Wednesday against Olivet Nazarene for a 3 p.m. first serve in Bourbonnais.
