Lakers Stumble Against Wabash

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt men's tennis team fell in their second match of the season after getting swept by Wabash at XS Tennis in Chicago.

Although the Lakers did not win any matches, they forced a pair of the singles matches to a third-set tiebreak. Justin Magale lost the first set of his matchup at No. 1 singles 6-3, but bounced back to claim the second set 7-6, winning the tiebreaker 7-3. Unfortunately, he fell 10-6 in a competitive third set to drop the point.

Jorge Gutierrez battled through tiebreaks in both of his two sets at No. 4 singles, winning the first set 7-6 with a 7-4 victory in the tiebreaker. After dropping the second set in a 7-3 tiebreaker, Gutierrez fell 10-4 in the third set.

Conor Pacelli lost his match at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0 while Sebastien Valdenaire fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. The doubles matchups were not much better for the Lakers as the top pair of Magale and Valdenaire lost 6-1 while the second pair of Pacelli and Gutierrez lost 6-2. Roosevelt was forced to forfeit at the fifth and sixth singles spots as well as No. 3 doubles.

The Lakers return to the court Sunday for a doubleheader of action at XS Tennis with matches against Webster University at 1 p.m. then a matchup with Millikin at 4 p.m.
