Men's Soccer Ties Record With Seven NAIA Scholar-Athletes

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt men's soccer program tied its record with seven players named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the organization released Friday.

The Lakers also had seven honorees last season, but only senior Eduardo Hernandez earned his second academic honor from the NAIA. The six first-time honorees all played for Roosevelt this season, led by Gabriel Koenig, Adam Przytula and Oskar Schuster, all of whom played in all 18 matches this season. Valerio Joos made eight starts in nine appearances prior to missing the rest of the season due to injury, Davide Comai played in 17 matches for the Lakers with 14 starts and captain Otitolouwa Ojo played in 15 matches.

Schuster tied for the team lead with four goals this season and led Roosevelt with six assists this season for a team-best 14 points. Koenig was the leader of the Roosevelt defense and a first-team all-conference honoree while Przytula played a critical role on the back line as both a center back and defensive midfielder. Hernandez tallied three goals and three assists this year and Joos added two goals and a helper this season as well. Comai was also among the leading scorers with three goals this season and Ojo was a second-team All-CCAC performer.

Per the NAIA, the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete programs recognize excellence in the classroom by NAIA-member student-athletes who are juniors or above in academic standing with a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Students must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at the institution. The awards are given annually to outstanding student-athletes in the various sports in which the program is active and their respective teams are eligible for NAIA postseason competition.
