Roosevelt Rout IU Northwest To Close Out Regular Season

CROWN POINT, Ind. – Erik Hernandez's two first-half goals were more than enough for Roosevelt to ease past Indiana Northwest 6-1 in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup Saturday in Crown Point, Ind.

It was a slow build in the first half for the Lakers (9-6-1, 8-3-0 CCAC) as they dominated possession but couldn't convert. Hernandez changed that in the 35th minute with a beautiful finish off the feed from Jose Rivera to give Roosevelt the lead. Less than three minutes later, the striker was at it again, doubling Roosevelt's advantage with a second goal to put the Lakers up 2-0 at halftime.

Oswaldo Perez kicked off the second-half scoring for the Lakers in the 55th minute with an unassisted tally. Todor Simonovic made it 4-0 Roosevelt in the 68th minute by hammering home the pass from Oskar Schuster. A minute after the RedHawks scored their only goal of the match, Miguel Gomez scored the Lakers' fifth goal off the assist from Davide Comai, who completed the scoring in the 89th minute off another Schuster assist.

Roosevelt dominated the match with a 30-4 edge in shot attempts and a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks. Mario Bataz made one save in his first appearance for the Lakers while Roosevelt forced 10 saves from the Indiana Norhtwest goalkeeper on 16 shots on goal.

The Lakers have earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CCAC Tournament and will host St. Francis at Morris Field in the quarterfinals next Saturday at 7 p.m.
