ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – A windy day wreaked havoc at Morris Field as Governors State edged out Roosevelt 3-1 in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup Saturday on Senior Day.
The Jaguars took a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the match before the Lakers began to turn the tide on Governors State. Roosevelt (7-6-1, 6-3-0 CCAC) began to build up a dangerous attack in the Jaguars' half of the field. Both teams finished with five shot attempts in the first half and both goalies made three stops during the first 45 minutes.
Governors State added second and third goals early in the second half with the wind in its face, but Roosevelt did not give up. The Lakers continued to create dangerous chances for themselves, including a pair of corner kicks. Yet it wasn't until the 86th minute when Sebastian Padilla drilled home the pass from Oskar Schuster that the Lakers dented the scoreboard. Roosevelt had several other chances in the final four minutes of the match, notably a drive from Alan Rubio that just drifted over the crossbar.
Roosevelt honored its senior class pregame ahead of the final scheduled home match of the regular season. The nine seniors were Emmanuel Castanon, Eduardo Hernandez, Marvin Lopez, Otitolouwa Ojo, Adam Przytula, Jose Rivera, Alan Rubio and Todor Simonovic in addition to team manager Luis Munoz.
The Lakers will head to East Chicago, Ind. on Tuesday to face Calumet St. Joseph in a CCAC matchup with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
