Roosevelt Overwhelms St. Francis In Second Half

JOLIET, Ill. – Roosevelt erupted for a five-goal blitz in the second half to rout St. Francis 6-0 in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup Saturday night in Joliet.

It took a little less than 12 minutes for Noah Vasilev to give the Lakers the lead with his second goal of the season. The Lakers (6-5-1, 5-2-0 CCAC) had plenty of chances to extend the lead while outshooting St. Francis 12-3 in the first half while also earning seven corner kicks. Eric Carvajal was up to the task in goal for Roosevelt, stopping both shots that made it to him in the opening half.

The pressure finally resulted in a second goal for Roosevelt 1:52 into the second half when Oskar Schuster scored on a feed from Eduardo Hernandez. Shortly thereafter, the game became wide open when St. Francis received a red card and was down a man in the 63rd minute. The Lakers outshot the Fighting Saints 27-2 in the second half while mostly playing with an extra player and forced eight saves out of the St. Francis goalie.

Schuster fed Jose Rivera for Roosevelt's third goal of the evening less than five minutes after the red card, and the onslaught quickly began. Schuster scored his second of the game in the 72nd minute with Marvin Lopez picking up an assist then Oswaldo Perez scored in the 80th minute courtesy of a Sebastian Padilla pass. Not to miss out on the fun, Padilla scored 1:09 after Perez on Emmanuel Castanon's assist in the 81st minute.

Roosevelt's 39 shots in the match were the most for a Lakers team since they had 40 in August 2019 against Indiana Northwest. It was just the 10th time in program history that the Lakers have scored at least six goals in a match.

The Lakers begin their final homestand of the season Wednesday night at Morris Field when they face Viterbo at 7 p.m.
