Carvajal Named CCAC Defender Of The Week
CHICAGO – Sophomore goalkeeper Eric Carvajal is the first Roosevelt men's soccer player in four years to be named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defender of the Week.
The league made the announcement Tuesday afternoon, highlighting Carvajal's standout performance in the Lakers' 2-0 win over Holy Cross last Saturday. The Arlington Heights native was credited with just one save, but it was a big stop as he lunged across the goal to parry a shot early in the second half to keep the match scoreless. Carvajal also showed great control over his penalty area in helping organize the Lakers defense to keep a clean sheet for the second straight game.
It is the first weekly award for Carvajal in his career and he's the first Lakers player to be honored since Oskar Schuster was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the opening week of last season. Roosevelt hasn't had a Defensive Player of the Week since Edmond Montano in 2019.
"Eric has performed very well for us and he continues to elevate his game in a lot of different aspects this season," Roosevelt head coach Paddy Hoepp said. "This recognition is not only an acknowledgement of Eric's hard work, but a reflection of the collective effort from our team and our unwavering defensive commitment."
Roosevelt is scheduled to host Saint Xavier at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Morris Field as the Lakers try to stretch their winning streak to three games.
