Men's Soccer Edged By Cardinal Stritch In Season Finale

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Roosevelt University men's soccer team had its spring 2021 season conclude against Cardinal Stritch at the Bavarian Inn on Saturday, April 10, as the Lakers tried furiously to rally back from a two-goal deficit but came up one goal short of leveling in a narrow 2-1 road loss to the Wolves.

The result ended the Lakers' Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament hopes and allowed Stritch to clinch the CCAC regular season championship.

  • Stritch took the lead in the 32nd minute when Salvador Nunez scored
  • Nunez doubled the Wolves' lead in the 48th minute with his second strike of the match
  • A foul in the box in the 66th minute gave Hernandez a PK chance that was stopped by Stritch keeper Alexandre Baranes, but the rebound went right to Flores' feet and he quickly knocked it in far post for a critical strike
  • The Lakers pushed forward and created opportunities, including a late shot on goal by Alan Rubio (SO/Rockford, Ill.) that required a diving Baranes save with less than two minutes remaining in regulation
  • Roosevelt could not find the equalizer in the final seconds
