
Lakers Snap Skid, Split Weekend With Concordia
BENSENVILLE, Ill. – The Roosevelt University ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team snapped its seven-game losing streak to earn a weekend split against Concordia on November 18 and 19 at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.
CONCORDIA 7, ROOSEVELT 4 – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18
A fairly even matchup got out of hand for Roosevelt in the third period Friday when Concordia scored five unanswered goals to earn the first victory of the weekend. The Lakers seemed to be in control when Danny Bdzoch scored off an unassisted tally 27 seconds into the third period to push the Roosevelt lead to 4-2. However, the game was tied within four minutes and Concordia took the lead with 12:52 left. The Cardinals scored twice more over the next seven minutes for the final margin.
The game got off to a rough start for the Lakers after the Cardinals scored less than a minute into the game. Chase Carvella tied the game with about five minutes left in the first period off an assist from Nate Brown. Frank Moore gave Roosevelt its first lead of the game with 12:24 left in the second period with the assists going to Zach Demarce and Griffin Lehet. After Concordia tied the game, Tanner Hallett scored on a feed from Max Finner with 1:35 left in the second to ensure the Lakers would lead after 40 minutes.
Stephen Ward-Brown turned aside 35 shots in goal for the Lakers, who were outshot 42-39 in the game. Roosevelt also converted on two of its six man-advantage opportunities while killing off all four Concordia power plays.
ROOSEVELT 5, CONCORDIA 1 – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19
Frank Moore scored twice and had one assist in the first period and Roosevelt had its shutout was spoiled with four minutes to go to improve to 3-7 this season. Moore opened the scoring just 2:40 into the contest with assists going to Timothy Laskowski and Cade Swygert. Danny Bdzoch doubled the lead exactly 12 minutes into the game with Moore credited with the only assist on the goal. Moore added his 12th goal of the season around three minutes later with Bdzoch returning the favor on the assist to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead off a 16-11 advantage in shots.
The Lakers were even more dominant in the second period, outshooting Concordia 16-9 and adding two more goals to their lead. Swygert scored on the power play 27 seconds into the second period then Laskowski scored with seven minutes remaining in the period to close out the scoring for Roosevelt. Quinn Haller was credited with an assist on both goals while Max Finner added a helper on Laskowski's tally.
Nicholas Kotz stopped 32 of the 33 shots he saw, allowing only a power-play goal with 4:06 remaining to spoil the shutout bid. Roosevelt finished with a 45-33 advantage in shots and converted on half of its power plays.
The Lakers will be off this weekend for the Thanksgiving break then return to the ice on December 2 and 3 at The Edge Ice Arena against Western Michigan for a two-game set against the Broncos. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:20 p.m.
