Roosevelt Struggles On Michigan Road Trip

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Roosevelt University  ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team's offense struggled to gain momentum as the Lakers lost both ends of a back-to-back with Calvin over the weekend in Grand Rapids, Mich. The 10-2 setback Friday and the 8-2 defeat Saturday dropped the team's record to 2-6 overall.

CALVN 10, ROOSEVELT 2 – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4

It looked like this was going to be a long night when Roosevelt fell behind less than two minutes into the game and trailed 3-0 after the first period. However, Max Finner scored on the power play 1:08 into the second period to breathe some life into the Lakers and captain Frank Moore trimmed the deficit to one halfway through the period.

Calvin was able to add one more goal with about five minutes left in the second period then turned up the pressure in the third period. The Knights took 14 shots in the third period and scored on six of those attempts to seal their victory.

Roosevelt was outshot 40-19 in the game and never managed more than eight shots in any period. Paola Suppa kicked out 22 of the 26 shots he faced in the first two periods to keep the Lakers in the game before allowing the six third-period tallies.

CALVIN 8, ROOSEVELT 2 – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5

The Lakers had yet another slow start Saturday by allowing two goals in the first 1:22 of the game to stake Calvin to the lead. The Knights would score four times on 20 shots in the opening 20 minutes and added two more goals in the first five minutes of the second period as the ice was tilted heavily in their favor.

Moore responded for Roosevelt seven minutes into the second period off a feed from Griffin Lehet. With eight seconds remaining in the second period, Danny Bdzoch scored a second for the Lakers to bring them within four at the end of 40 minutes.

Calvin added two more goals in the third period and finished with a 49-28 advantage in shots.

The Lakers hit the road back to Michigan on Friday and Saturday with a trip to Western Michigan for a two-game set against the Broncos. Puck drop Friday is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. while Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m.
