Lakers Split Weekend ACHA Division I Men's Hockey Series With Robert Morris

BENSENVILLE, Ill. – The Roosevelt University ACHA division one men's hockey team split a weekend series with Robert Morris University (Pa.), defeating the Colonials 4-3 on Friday, November 12 and losing 4-3 on Saturday, November 13 at The Edge Ice Arena.  After the weekend split, the Lakers are now 3-9 overall on the year.

In the series opener on Friday night, the Colonials jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals in at the 9:04 and 13:30 marks.  However, the Lakers registered back-to-back to goals by Jake Hermann and Josef Martancik at 16:38 and 17:25 to even the game up at 2-2.  Griffin Lehet and John Vandervalk earned assists on Hermann's goal, while Vandervalk picked up another assist on Martancik's tally along with Quin Haller.

Robert Morris began the scoring once again in the second period at 12:49 to regain the lead at 3-2, but Quin Haller tied the game at 3-3 on assists from Cade Swygert and Josef Martancik and the score remained that way heading into the second intermission.

The Lakers scored the only goal of the third period and the eventual game winner at the 4:51 mark when Gage McNeish lit the lamp on an assist from Martancik, his second of the game.  Meanwhile, the Roosevelt defense and goaltender Nick Kotz held the Colonials scoreless in the final 20 minutes with Kotz stopping all 18 shots in the period to preserve the victory.

In game two of the weekend, the Lakers took an early lead with Martancik scoring at the 3:14 mark on a power play for his fourth goal of the year on assists from Quinn Haller and Tanner Hallett.  However, the Colonials quickly answered back at 5:28 on a power play of their own to tie things up and the game remained tied at 1-1 at the end of the first period.

Robert Morris took a 2-1 lead at the 9:16 mark and upped its lead to 3-1 on a short-handed goal at 13:03 to lead 3-1.  Roosevelt pulled one back at 15:29 when Quinn Haller notched an unassisted goal, his fifth of the year, to make it a 3-2 game at the end of two periods.

The Colonials opened the scoring again in the third period just over three minutes in to lead 4-2, but the Lakers John Vandervalk scored his second goal of the year at 15:47 on assists from Cade Swygert and Griffin Lehet to make it a 4-3 game.  Despite outshooting the Colonials in 15-8 in the final period, the Lakers could not find the equalizer, dropping the game 4-3.
