Men's Hockey Drops Two Games to Ninth Ranked Ohio University to Open Season

ATHENS, Ohio – The Roosevelt University ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team opened their 2021-22 season, losing to ninth-ranked and CSCHL League foe Ohio University 9-1 on Friday, October 8 and 8-2 on Saturday, October 9 at The Bird Arena. 

In Friday's game, Ohio scored the game's first goal at the 9:12 mark to take a 1-0 lead.  However, the Lakers answered back on a goal by Quinn Haller just under three minutes later to tie things up at 1-1.  John Vandervalk earned the assist on the goal.  The Bobcats regained the lead with a goal at the 14:10 mark and the score remained 2-1 at the first intermission.

Ohio dominated the game from the second period on, scoring two goals in the second period and adding five goals in the third period for the 9-1 victory.

Saturday's game saw a competitive first period of action, with Ohio striking first once again, this time just under four minutes into the contest.  The Lakers evened the game at 1-1 at the 10:57 mark with Cade Swygert finding the back of the net off assists from Timothy Laskowski and Gage Mcneish. 

The Bobcats took back the lead under three minutes later, but Roosevelt's John Vandervalk tied the game at 2-2 on a power play goal with Mcneish picking up his second assist of the game.  Unfortunately, Ohio scored a late goal with just over a minute remaining in the period and went on to score five more unanswered goals the rest of the way for the 8-2 final score.
