New Faces Lift Lakers To Ninth-Place Finish

LAKEWOOD, Ill. – Roosevelt got some impressive performances from different faces to finish in a tie for ninth at the Take Back the Night Challenge hosted in Lakewood by Millikin on Friday and Saturday.

Freshman Marc Waller led the way for the Lakers with a 20th place finish at 7-over par, playing the most consistent golf of the five-man team. In Friday's opening round, Waller made three birdies to be tied for the team lead with a 75 at Red Tail Run GC. He finished with the same score in Saturday's final round, also with three birdies on the card at the par-71 South Side Country Club.

Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez was in line for a fantastic opening round as he headed into his final hole of the day at Red Tail Run. Unfortunately, the senior posted a triple bogey on the final hole to finish at 3-over on the day then never found the same rhythm in finishing in a tie for 35th.

Charlie Curtis and Matthew Webb both finished with identical 13-over scores for the two-round event. Both players mostly avoided the big numbers that doomed their teammates but couldn't quite find enough birdies on the course. Curtis finished with two across the 36 holes and Webb carded three in his two rounds.

Thomas Peluchon finished in 94th at 24-over after struggling in the first round. Coming off his second win of the season, the freshman from France was 7-over through three holes in the opening round before finding his stroke with a birdie. He would add just one more birdie on his card Friday to finish at 16-over for the round. Peluchon then made three birdies on the back nine Saturday to gain some momentum.

Roosevelt will now prepare for next Monday's opening round of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted at Cinder Ridge in Wilmington. The Lakers are the three-time defending champions and looking to close out their NAIA run with a fourth consecutive title.
