Lakers Open Spring With Fourth Place Showing In Kansas
SPRING HILL, Kan. – Roosevelt opened its spring golf season with a fourth-place showing at the Shootout at Sycamore Ridge on Monday and Tuesday at Sycamore Ridge Golf Club in Spring Hill, Kan.
The Lakers had two players finish in the top-six of the event individually with Thomas Peluchon finishing in third place and Charlie Curtis tying for sixth place. Matthew Webb finished 27th and Marc Waller was 31st in the tournament while Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez started strong Monday but did not compete Tuesday.
Peluchon was in second place after the first round Monday with a 2-over 74 in the first 18 holes of the event. The freshman shot even par on the front nine with a pair of birdies then holed three more birdies on the back nine, but carded two bogeys and a triple. The Frenchman had four more birdies in the second round Tuesday, but still finished with a 78 to finish 8-over for the event, two shots off the winner.
Both Curtis and Webb played much better Tuesday than they did Monday with Curtis improving by five shots and Webb by an astounding 14 strokes. The two players only had one birdie each Monday and they both did it on the 11th hole. Curtis finished with an 80 and Webb with a 90 on the opening day before they rallied Tuesday. Curtis shot even par on the back nine in the second round to finish with a 3-over 75 behind three birdies and Webb shot a 76 with four birdies of his own.
Waller had one birdie on each of the two days to shoot 82 and 88. Gutierrez was in the top-15 after an opening-round 79 that included a birdie on the par-4 ninth to close out the front nine. Justin Rodriguez played as an individual for Roosevelt and finished 33rd after shooting 85 and 91 in the two rounds.
Roosevelt's spring season continues March 22 and 23 when it travels to Indiana for the Purgatory Invite hosted at Purgatory Golf Club.
