Lakers Complete Marathon Day At Ackerman-Allen Shootout

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Roosevelt finished in a tie for ninth after a marathon 36-hole day of golf Tuesday at the Ackerman-Allen Shootout at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The Lakers had two players finish in the top-25 at the event with Nicolas Paviet finishing  in a tie for 12th at 5-over for the tournament while Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez finished in a tie for 24th at 9-over. The duo played completely opposites rounds with Gutierrez starting off strong in the morning while Paviet grew stronger as the day wore on.

Gutierrez shot a 2-over 74 in the morning round and started his day off with a birdie on the fourth hole, his first of the event. The sophomore got to as low as 2-under through 11 holes and was on track for a round in the red before a double on the 18th hole and a bogey on his 17th hole of the day. After a short break, Gutierrez was 5-over through 11 holes in the second round before he birdied his first hole of the round, and finished with a 79.

Paviet bogeyed three of his four holes of the day but stabilized himself and played the final 14 holes at 1-over with three birdies to finish with a 76. His birdie in the morning on the par-5 second gave him the momentum he needed for the afternoon round when he shot a 1-over 73 after a pair of birdies in his first six holes.

Jared Tjelmeland led the team with six birdies made over the course of the 36 holes, but he struggled to start the tournament after shooting an 83 in the first round. The junior made two triple bogeys in the first 18 holes, but saved his round with a birdie on his 16th hole of the day to give him some confidence for the afternoon. He ran with it with back-to-back birdies to start the second round and he stayed around par for most of the day until finishing with a bogey and a double to card a 75 and finish in a tie for 41st position.

Charlie Curtis shot a 10-over 82 in the first round then returned with an 86 in the second round to finish in 56th place overall. Joep Guiting shot rounds of 88 and 92 to finish 62nd in the field.

The Lakers compete in their final tournament prior to the conference championships on Friday and Saturday in Decatur at the Take Back The Night Challenge co-hosted at Red Tail Run Golf Club and South Side Country Club.
