Roosevelt Struggles In Weather-Shortened Tiger Spring Invitational

ST. ANNE, Ill. – The conditions got the better of the Roosevelt men's golf team on Friday at the weather-shortened Tiger Spring Invitational hosted by Olivet Nazarene at Kankakee Elks Country Club in St. Anne.

Limited to just one round, the Lakers struggled on the course and shot a 34-over 322 to fall to seventh of the nine team participating, many of which were Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foes. The Lakers finished fourth among the six CCAC teams in the field and ended 17 shots behind Olivet Nazarene, which finished second in its home tournament. St. Francis finished third at 26-over and Trinity Christian was sixth at 31-over par. St. Xavier and Governors States finished eighth and ninth, respectively, behind the Lakers.

Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez and Nicolas Paviet paced Roosevelt with matching 78s, good for a tie for 14th place at 6-over for the tournament. Jared Tjelmeland shot a 10-over 82 and Charlie Curtis finished with an 84, tying for 36th among the 15 golfers competing. Joep Guiting's score of 98 didn't count toward the team total, but he finished in 50th position.

The Lakers have a chance to rebound quickly at the Cougar Spring Preview on Tuesday and Wednesday at Metamora Fields Golf Club in Metamora.
