Lakers Men’s Golf’s Pardo Gutierrez Wins the CCAC Fall Preview Cup

WILMINGTON, Ill. – Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez produced his second consecutive podium worthy tournament for the Roosevelt Lakers men's golf team, this time winning the one-day CCAC Fall Preview Cup as an individual on Monday, October 10. The team combined for second place in the six-team field.

The 18-hole tournament, held at Cinder Ridge Golf Course, could not have been scheduled for a better day as unseasonably warm fall weather combined with a light breeze to create optimal scoring conditions for all competitors. Pardo Gutierrez took advantage of the conditions, attacking the 7100-yard course. Heading into the final hole of competition, a 504-yard par 5, Pardo Gutierrez found himself tied for the lead at 4-over. After hitting a long drive down the left side, he was able to safely reach the green in his second shot. Pardo Gutierrez just missed his eagle putt, but was able to easily tap in for the birdie to shoot 75 and earn a one-shot victory.

The day was a story of two nines for the rest of the team. Jared Tjelmeland finished birdie-birdie to shoot an even par 36 on the back nine for a 77. The score was good enough for fourth place individually at the event. Senior Trace Mcguire was lights out on the front nine, shooting a one over 37 and finishing with a score of 82 on the day. Charlie Curtis rounded out the team scoring for the Lakers, shooting a one over 37 on the back nine to finish at 87. Joep Guiting added a 96 for the team.
