Roosevelt Men’s Golf Opens Its Fall Season at the Players Club Invitational

Yorktown, Ind. – The Roosevelt Lakers men's golf team traveled to Yorktown, Indiana to begin its fall campaign on Monday, September 12 and Tuesday September 13. The Players Club Invitational was hosted by Taylor University at the Players Club at Woodland Trails. The two-day event featured some of the top NAIA competition from across the Midwest and consisted of 36 holes on Monday and 18 more on Tuesday.

The tournament field faced a stern test on the opening day of competition as temperatures dropped to unseasonably cold temperatures in the morning, followed by periods of rain throughout the day. After a slow start to the opening 18 holes netted the Lakers a team score of 322, Roosevelt weathered the storm in the second half of the day. With three out of four Lakers going lower on round two, the team dropped 20 strokes from the morning, posting a team total of 302.

Individually, Charlie Curtis and Jared Tjelmeland paced the Lakers with total scores of 229 over the three rounds. Curtis led the team in round one tallying a three-over par 75, and following it with a one-over par 73 in the afternoon. Tjelmeland was not far behind after the morning round shooting a five-over 77 to start the day. He followed that effort with a team low even par 72 in the afternoon.

Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez and Trace McGuire rounded out the scoring effort for the Lakers with Pardo Gutierrez posting a 75 on Monday afternoon, followed by an 81 on Tuesday. McGuire was the most consistent Roosevelt golfer throughout the competition, posting scores of 81, 82, and 81 over the three rounds.
