Men’s Golf Endures Tough Conditions For Fifth Place Finish

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The Lakers men's golf team battled cold, blustery conditions and stiff competition en route to a fifth-place finish at the Purgatory Intercollegiate this Saturday, April 2.

The team played well in the first round, led by a team low 74 from sophomore Jared Tjelmeland. Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez followed up with a 78, while Nicolas Paviet shot 79. Charlie Curtis rounded out the day one scoring for the Lakers with an 80. Friday's team score of 311 had them in fifth place, but only one shot out of third.

Saturday's final round saw Pardo Gutierrez lead the way with a blistering 73. Unfortunately, it was not enough to help the Lakers move up the leaderboard. The day two team total of 313 was also good enough for fifth place on the day and fifth place overall.

"We took a lot of positives away from this event especially in the conditions," said Lakers Head Coach Peter Pougnet. "The cold temperatures, wind and multiple delays the guys handled well and really hit a lot of quality golf shots. Jared's round the first day and Alvaro's round the second day were extremely well played and big for us. We will look forward to a great week of practice and get ready for our next event."
