Men's Golf Takes Second Place at Lewis University Flyer Invitational at Cog Hill

LEMONT, Ill. - The Roosevelt University men's golf team continued their season after a three-week hiatus to compete at the world-famous Cog Hill – Dubsdread Golf Course on October 4 and 5 in the Flyer Intercollegiate, hosted by NCAA Division II Lewis University.

The Lakers shot 299 and 304 for a two-day total of 603 to finish in a tie for second place with Campbellsville University (Ky.). The Lakers won the tiebreaker to take second place behind Bellevue University (Neb.), who won the tournament with a two-day total of 581.

On a tough golf course in windy conditions, the Lakers were led by Junior Nicolas Paviet, who finished tied for eighth with a 148 total (70, 78).

Rounding out the line-up were sophomore Charlie Curtis (79, 74), junior Cooper Carmody (72, 81) and sophomore Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez (82, 71) all tied at 153, which also tied them for 23rd place individually. In the fifth spot was sophomore Jared Tjelmeland (78, 81) with a total of 159 which earned him a tie for 60th place.

Although not satisfied with a second place finish, Lakers Head Coach Peter Pougnet learned a lot about his team on a tough golf course.

"We didn't play our best, but I believe we were able to learn a lot about what we need to do to get to that level," said Pougnet. "We are going to keep working hard and figure out how we are going to improve before our last two events to close the fall."

The Lakers are back in action on Tuesday, October 12th at the Judson Fall Invitational, hosted by Judson University at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill.
