Men's Golf Wins Title at St. Francis Fall Invitational; Cooper Carmody & Nicolas Paviet Earn Top-Five Finishes

PLAINFIELD, Ill. – The Roosevelt University men's golf team won their sixth tournament in program history on Tuesday, September 14 finishing in first in the University of St. Francis Fall Invitational place at Wedgewood Golf Club.

Coming off a two week break from the start of their season, Wedgewood Golf Club played tough in very windy conditions. However, the Lakers posted an 11-shot victory with a team score of 295 with Elmhurst College in second place with a team score of 306.

Cooper Carmody led the Lakers and shot a one-under par 70 to finish in second place individually. Nicolas Paviet joined Carmody in the top-five individually, finishing in fourth with a two-over par 73. Rounding out the team's top-five were Charlie Curtis and Jared Tjelmeland, each shooting a five-over 76, while Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez ended the day with a seven-over par 78.

Trace McGuire, Jackson Sutton, and Alexander Ong competed in the tournament as individuals, with McGuire shooting 83, Sutton shooting 81, and Ong shooting 85.

"I'm proud of the boys and how they competed today," said Lakers Head Coach Peter Pougnet. "We have faced some adversity the last couple weeks, so to be able to get a team victory in this first one back is great. Hopefully we can get it rolling with multiple tournaments now coming up, and we are excited for the challenge this weekend is going to bring."

The Lakers have a quick turnaround as they head down to the Olivet Nazarene University Fall Invite on Friday, September 17th and Saturday, September 18th at Kankakee Elks Country Club in St. Anne, Ill.
