Men's Golf Finishes in Fourth Place at Purgatory Intercollegiate

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The Roosevelt University men's golf team returned to competition this past weekend in the Purgatory Intercollegiate hosted by Taylor University at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. on April 2 and 3.

The Lakers finished in fourth place as a team with a two day team score of 612 (302, 306). The tournament was won by Indiana Wesleyan University who shot 600 (289, 311).

Friday's conditions were chilly but calm, which resulted in a golf course set up for low scores. Cooper Carmody (SO/Stuart, Fla.) (SO/Stuart, FL) led the Lakers on day one with a two over par 74. Following behind were Charlie Curtis (FR/Tucson, Ariz.) (FR/Tucson, AZ) with a 75, Nicolas Paviet (SO/Lyon, France) with a 75, Drew Ritter (SR/Rogersville, Mo.) (SR/Rogersville, MO) with a 78, Trace McGuire (SO/Palm City, Fla.) (SO/Palm City, FL) with an 81, and Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez (FR/San Sebastian, Spain) playing as an individual and shooting 75.

On Saturday, Purgatory showed its teeth. The wind picked up, creating tough scoring conditions for everyone. Paviet battled through a four over start in his first eight holes to finish with an even par 72 and top-five finish after playing his final 10 holes four under par.

Paviet was the Lakers low man on Saturday followed by McGuire's 77, Carmody's 80, Ritter's 81, Curtis's 84, and Pardo's 76.

Along with Paviet in the top-five, Pardo earned top-10 honors with a two day score of 151 and Carmody finished in the top-15 with a two day total of 154.

"Every year the Purgatory Intercollegiate is a great tournament on a tough golf course with a great field," said Lakers Head Coach Peter Pougnet. "I thought we did a great job competing until the end and took away a lot of positives to build on."

The Lakers will have a busy week ahead as they prepare to head to South Bend, Ind. next weekend for the Pilot Spring Invite hosted by Bethel University at Blackthorn Golf Club on April 9 and 10.
