Lakers Open Season With Roller Coaster Results

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt men's bowling team set a school record in the first three events of the 2023-24 season.

The Lakers shot a record 5881 on Oct. 14 for a team average of 980 and an individual average of 196, the best day since the program arrived at Roosevelt. The Lakers wound up finishing 26th at the Columbia 300 Western Shootout that weekend after Sunday's Baker rounds.

At the Western Shootout in Indianapolis, freshman Jesse Castillo led the way for the Lakers in his first collegiate event with a score of 1270 for the six games bowled, good enough for a 41st-place finish. Kendrick Wilson shot a 1213 to finish 61st while freshman Troy Welker was 72nd with a 1201.

In its most recent event, Roosevelt finishing eighth at the Boilermaker Classic in Lafayette, Ind. on Oct. 28 and 29. Wilson, a graduate transfer, led the way with 1018 over five games while Castillo was 57th with a 760. Sophomore Anthony Andrade finished two spots behind Castillo with a 750.

The Lakers opened the season in Wauwatosa, Wis. at the Midwest Collegiate Championships on Oct. 7 and 8 with a 38th-place showing. Wilson was the top individual with a 1161 to finish 69th while Andrade bowled a 1142 for 76th position. Welker rounded out the squad in 108th place with a 1042 in his first collegiate event.

Roosevelt's season continues Nov. 11 and 12 at the Leatherneck Classic in Davenport, Iowa.
