Lakers Bowling Programs to Begin Inaugural Season at Columbia 300 Western Shootout
CHICAGO – The inaugural season for the Roosevelt University men's and women's bowling teams will begin on Saturday, October 16 when the two teams compete in the Columbia 300 Western Shootout. The two-day event will take place at Western Bowl in Indianapolis.
The Lakers new program was originally set to start during the 2020-21 year, but it was unfortunately delayed until the 2021-22 season due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. Although new to Roosevelt, the bowling programs were highly successful at Robert Morris University Illinois and became part of RU through the integration of the two schools in March 2020.
Bob Voight is set to lead the two programs as head coach and has great collegiate experience after coaching at RMU for several years, leading the women's program to the 2019 USBC National Championship.
"Our intentions are to continue improve as we begin bowling again," said Voight. "It's been a long time since February of 2020 when we were last able to compete."
Coach Voight will count on several bowlers with collegiate experience who bowled at RMU two years ago, including Marco Garcia, Braedon Orbeck, and Daniel Callahan. He will also be looking to newcomers Jordan Crackenburger, Torry Atwater, and Kaitlynn Martin to make an impact this season.
"If we continue to improve, we should get enough points to qualify for the post season," added Voight. "Once you get to the post season, then it's a whole new season and anything is possible. We've done it before and we will try to do it again."
