Lakers Re-Write Record Book Against Visiting Archers

CHICAGO – Roosevelt men's basketball live up to its motto of "Together As A Team" in Thursday night's rout of Moody Bible Institute in a non-conference game at the Goodman Center.

The Lakers had 15 players appear in the game, and all of them earned at least nine minutes of action, as Roosevelt set the program record for largest win and fewest points allowed in the 107-34 win over the visiting Archers. Five players finished with at least 10 points as the Lakers shot 46.7 percent for the game and held Moody Bible to just 22.4 percent shooting in the contest.

The starting five made sure there was little doubt Roosevelt was going to win its seventh straight game by setting the tone early. The Lakers led 22-0 when they made their first substitutions 5:30 into the game, and scored the first 30 points of the game inside the opening eight minutes. By that point, the starters had already made their way to the bench and it was the reserves who finally had their run in the game.

Darius Wilson led Roosevelt with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the game, flying around to collect eight offensive rebounds and generating three steals. Matt Myers scored 11 points in his limited action Thursday while fellow graduate student Yuri Swinford collected 10 points and six rebounds in his 13 minutes on the court.

Roosevelt earned a major energy boost from the five players who made their season debuts against the Archers. Jurguen Ramos sank three 3-pointers to finish with nine points while Mick Dempsey sank 2 of 4 from long range to finish with six points. Calvin Lucas scored seven poins, Levent Sertesen scored two and Jeff Wilson scored six points and grabbed nine boards in their first minutes of the year.

Tyree Spencer was aggressive in his 15 minutes on the court, showcasing his veteran savvy with 10 points and four assists on 4 of 5 shooting. Shane Stevensen also made his presence known with 10 points and six rebounds in 10 minutes.

The Archers never trailed by less than 26 after Roosevelt assumed its early 30-0 edge and they were held to single digits until three minutes remained in the first half. The Lakers cruised to victory behind their 55-35 edge on the glass, which included 22 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second-chance points. Roosevelt actually outscored Moody Bible solely with its 49 points off the Archers' 33 turnovers and dominated the paint for a 52-14 edge in points.

Roosevelt will look to run its winning streak to eight games on Sunday when they host East-West at 5 p.m. at the Goodman Center. Please note the change in time for the game from the original schedule.
