Men's Basketball Suffers First CCAC Conference Loss of the Season in Defeat to Trinity International

DEERFIELD, Ill. – The Roosevelt University men's basketball team suffered its first CCAC Conference loss of the season, falling to Trinity International University by the score of 108-90 on Saturday, November 20 at Van Dixhorn Arena.  The loss dropped the Lakers conference record to 2-1 and their overall record to 4-2 on the year.

Josh Redic opened the game with a three-pointer and a layup in the first 45 seconds of the game to put the Lakers up 5-3 early on.  However, the Trojans came back with the next five points and led 13-9 with 16:32 to go in the first half.  Roosevelt then answered with seven straight points to regain the lead at 16-13 with 14:44 to go, but Trinity International came back to take a 21-20 advantage with 13:10 remaining.

Matt Myers made back-to-back baskets to push the Lakers ahead and Eetu Villa also scored to make it a 26-21 contest.  Roosevelt then led 35-29 on a Ayomide Ajiboye three-pointer, but the Trojans came back to tie the game up at 35-35 and 38-38 before the Lakers made a late first half run.  RU led by 10 points at 50-40 after a Redic three-pointer with just over three minutes to go and maintained a 10-point advantage with a 58-48 margin at the half.

The Lakers increased their lead to 60-48 on an Ajiboye dunk to begin the second half and maintained a double-digit lead until the Trojans cut the deficit to 66-58 with 15:46 left to play.  Trinity International continued to chip away at the Roosevelt lead and made it a 71-68 game with 12:15 to go.  Matt Myers followed with a layup to up the Lakers lead to 73-68, but the Trojans went on a 9-0 run to jump ahead 77-73 with just under 10 minutes left to play.

RU cut the margin to two points at 79-77, but that would be as close as the Lakers would get with TIU going on a 10-0 run to push its lead to 89-77 and maintain its double-digit lead the rest of the way.
