Big Boost From Bench Lifts Men's Basketball Past Judson

CHICAGO – Brian Kern and Josh Redic came off the bench with 20-point performances to spark a big day from the reserves on the Roosevelt men's basketball team, as the Lakers defeated Judson by a final of 89-75 at the Goodman Center on Saturday.

Kern tallied a career-high 21 points, connecting on five of six attempts from downtown and making seven of eight from the floor in 15 minutes off the bench, while Redic had his second straight game of 20 points after connecting six times on seven three-point shots.

Those two sparked a dominating 52-5 advantage in favor of the Lakers (1-5, 1-1 CCAC), who also took care of the ball with only 12 turnovers while handing out 22 total assists. Tariq Archibald paced that effort with eight assists and just one giveaway.

Bennett Fuzak had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Quin Riggins added eight points and eight boards.

Jordan Johnson paced the Eagles (1-5, 0-2 CCAC) with 19 points.

Roosevelt led from start to finish, building a lead as big as 25 midway through the second half and holding off the Eagles late thanks to efficient offense and taking care of the basketball.

"This was an eye-opener to our guys about what happens when you keep your turnovers down," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "Secondly, we hit a ton of shots, and that bailed out our defense because defensively we were not good at all. Kern gave us a huge spark off the bench, and Bennett led the way with a double-double. Redic bailed us out in the first half with his great scoring, and you can't overlook Tariq at 8-1.

"We still have a long way to go, but it's exciting to see the progress each week."

Roosevelt takes on Trinity International in its first CCAC road game of the season this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. inside Van Dixhorn Arena.
