Myers Leads Men's Basketball In Loss To 14th-Ranked Marian (Ind.)

CHICAGO – Matt Myers scored a team-high 16 points, but the Roosevelt men's basketball team struggled from the start and could not mount a second-half comeback against 14th-ranked Marian (Ind.) in an 88-61 loss at the Goodman Center on Saturday.

Bennett Fuzak added 11 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Tariq Archibald continued his strong start to the season with 10 points, four boards and four dimes for the Lakers (0-4), who shot 29 percent in the opening 20 minutes and made just 1 of 12 from downtown during that span to dig themselves a major hole.

The Knights (2-0) were led by Cameron Wolter's game-high 17 points and jumped out to a 13-1 lead to never look back.

Marian outscored Roosevelt 44-30 in the paint and tallied 24 points off of 17 Laker turnovers.

"It may sound redundant, but despite the score, we saw a lot of progress tonight against a final four team from last year," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "We are getting better shots but they're not going in yet, and we are trusting each other more. Defensively this was a very difficult team to guard, as evidenced by their 88 points, but we are making incremental progress on both sides.

"Tariq was very, very solid in running the team, and Matt played with better energy than Wednesday. Bennett was good as teams are really keying on him, but he's been very consistent this year."

Roosevelt hosts Robert Morris in the CCAC opener this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
