Barbosa's Special Teams Heroics Earn Him Player Of The Week Honors
CHICAGO – Dominic Barbosa's first career touchdown earned him Mid-States Football Association Midwest League Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The senior from Highland, Ind. crashed through the Olivet Nazarene line to block a punt with less than 15 seconds left in the first half. He scooped up the loose ball and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown to give Roosevelt all the momentum and a 20-17 halftime lead over the Tigers.
It is the first weekly honor of Barbosa's career and the fifth time this season the Lakers have earned a weekly honor from the MSFA. The defensive lineman is also the first player to earn Special Teams Player of the Week honors since the program came under the Roosevelt name prior to the 2020-21 season.
