Luke Wilson Ignites the Offense as #20 Lakers Football Defeats Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Fresh off a new top 25 ranking, the number 20 ranked Roosevelt Lakers football team hit the road for a Mid-States Football Association crossover matchup against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils at Blue Devils Stadium.

The game got off to an auspicious start for the Lakers as a Lawrence Tech receiver broke free for a 75 yard touchdown reception on the first offensive play of the game. Roosevelt did not take long to shift momentum in its favor, moving 76 yards on its opening possession in just six plays to tie the game 7-7. Junior running back Tyler Tenner capped the drive with a seven yard touchdown run.

With the game now tied, the Lakers' defense settled in to a groove, forcing a three and out on the next Blue Devils possession. Lakers quarterback Luke Wilson would show off his arm on the ensuing drive, connecting with Blaize Griffin on passes of 37 and 7 yards to put Roosevelt in Blue Devils territory. Wilson finished off the drive with a 27 yard touchdown strike to wideout Alex Tran to give the Lakers a 14-7 advantage.

It wouldn't be long before the Lakers got the ball back, as junior Trey Bishop intercepted the first Lawrence Tech pass of the next possession. Wilson would once again display his passing precision, connecting on four consecutive passes to move the ball down the field. On a critical fourth down from the Lawrence Tech 16 yard line, receiver Jerrell Calhoun drew a pass interference call to set up another Tenner touchdown run, this time from the two yard line.

With the score now 21-7, Roosevelt linebacker Bennie Harris forced and recovered a fumble on the next play of the Blue Devils offensive possession. Taking advantage of the short field, Wilson connected with tight end Jack Young, Jr. on his second touchdown pass of the game to give the Lakers a 28-7 lead heading into the half.

After giving up a touchdown on the first possession of the second half, Roosevelt would lean on the run game, led by Tenner and sophomore quarterback Benjamin Little. The two teams would alternate scores in the second half, with Little scoring two rushing touchdowns from six and two yards. In the end, the Lakers would close out the game with a convincing 42-28 win.
