12 Lakers Earn Mid-States Football Association All-Midwest League Team Honors

CHICAGO – The Mid-States Football Association announced the MSFA All-Midwest League postseason awards and 12 student-athletes from Roosevelt University earned all-league team recognition for the 2021 season. 

Three Lakers were named to the first team, six to the second team, and three to the honorable mention team and all honorees are listed below.


ALL-MSFA MIDWEST LEAGUE FIRST TEAM

Zavier Cordero-Barnes
This is the second consecutive All-MSFA Midwest League selection for Cordero-Barnes and his first to the first team after being a second team member last season.  The linebacker was fourth on the team with 39 tackles this season, including nine tackles for a loss and three and a half sacks. 

Ke'von Johnson
The running back makes his third straight appearance on the All-MSFA Midwest League first team after leading the team with 802 total rushing yards, which was third in the league this season while his 100.3 yards per game average was second in the MSFA Midwest League and 14th in the NAIA.  Johnson also scored seven rushing touchdowns and had two receiving this season, and earned MSFA Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week honors on two occasions.

Denzel Tolliver
The tight end earned his second straight selection to the All-MSFA Midwest League first team and was RU's third leader receiver this season.  He collected 249 yards on 25 receptions to go with three touchdown catches this year.


ALL-MSFA MIDWEST LEAGUE SECOND TEAM

Julian Bell
The defensive back earned his first All-MSFA Midwest League selection after he led the Lakers with four interceptions this season, which ranked him third in the MSFA Midwest League.  Bell posted 19 total tackles and had a forced fumble this season as well.

Myles Davis
The sophomore defensive back makes his second consecutive appearance on the All-MSFA Midwest League second team after also earning this honor last season.  Davis was eighth on the team with 24 tackles to go with three pass breakups and a sack this year.

Corties Draper
The freshman linebacker was the Lakers second leading tackler with 44 this season to earn his first All-MSFA Midwest League honor.  Draper was also second on the team with seven tackles for a loss and posted a sack during the year.

Salvador Gonzalez
The offensive lineman earned his second straight All-MSFA Midwest League selection, this time to the second team after being an honorable mention selection last season.  Gonzalez helped anchor the offensive line that enabled the Lakers to average 164.9 rushing yards per game and allow 12 sacks in 10 games played.

Blaize Griffin
The wide receiver makes his second straight appearance on the All-MSFA Midwest League team after earning first team honors last year.  The junior was the Lakers leading receiver with 641 yards on 38 catches to go with five touchdown receptions, and his 641 receiving yards ranked him sixth in the league this season.

Dionte Moorehead
The junior appears on the All-MSFA Midwest League team for the third straight season after earning second team honors last season and first team recognition in 2019.  The defensive lineman recorded 19 tackles to go with two and a half tackles for a loss and one sack this year.


ALL-MSFA MIDWEST LEAGUE HONORABLE MENTION TEAM

Malik Barbee
The sophomore earned his first All-MSFA Midwest League selection after posting 34 tackles, which was fifth best on the team this season.  The defensive lineman recorded three and a half tackles for a loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble as well during the year.

Raine Potts
The defensive back earned his second straight All-MSFA Midwest League honorable mention team selection after ranking third on the team with 42 tackles.  The senior also had one interception this season.

Billy Winfrey
The sophomore makes his first appearance on the All-MSFA Midwest League team after playing a role on the offensive line as a tight end.  Winfrey helped the Laker offense average 164.9 yards per game rushing, while allowing just 12 sacks in 10 games this season.
