Lakers Fall to Judson 30-20 in MSFA Midwest League Football Contest

CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. – The Roosevelt University football team lost a MSFA Midwest League game to Judson University by the score of 30-20 on Saturday, October 23 at Dundee-Crown High School.  The loss evened the Lakers league record to 2-2 and dropped their overall record to 3-4 this season.

The Lakers fell behind early in the game, trailing 14-0 in the first quarter to Judson after the Eagles scored on the opening possession, driving 68 yards on eight plays to take an 8-0 lead after converting on the two-point conversion.  A Roosevelt turnover on its first possession gave Judson the ball back at the Lakers 16-yard line, and the Eagles capitalized with a touchdown to take a 14-0 lead.

Towards the end of the first quarter, the Lakers got the ball back with outstanding field position at the Judson 22-yard line.  After the quarter ended and the teams switched ends of the field, Ke'von Johnson scored on a 13-yard run to cut the Judson lead in half and the score remained 14-7 at the half.

After the Lakers first drive of the third quarter stalled after an offensive pass interference penalty, the Eagles marched down the field and capped off their 10-play, 62-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion to stretch their lead to 22-7.

The Lakers proceeded to put together a scoring drive of their own on the next possession, marching 51 yards on 11 plays with quarterback Jack Sheehan connecting with Khalliq Hammond on a 15-yard scoring pass to make it a 22-13 game early in the fourth quarter after a failed extra point attempt.

Unfortunately, the Lakers were held to a three and out on their next possession, while Judson extended its lead to 30-13 on a one-yard touchdown run with 3:59 to play on its next possession.

However, the Lakers answered right back with six-play, 60-yard scoring drive that took only 51 seconds off the clock.  Sheehan threw his second TD pass of the game, connecting on a four-yard toss to Denzel Tolliver to make it a 30-20 game after Omar Beltran's extra point.

Roosevelt was forced to attempt an on-side kick but the Lakers were ruled offside, giving the ball to the Eagles with 3:06 left on the clock.  Judson was able to run the ball effectively and successfully run out the clock for the 30-20 league win.
