Bryce Hayman Named ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Winner
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Roosevelt graduate student centerfielder Bryce Hayman was named one of nine 2024 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NAIA Gold Glove Award winners, the organization announced Wednesday.
Hayman is the first winner of the award in the school's history and comes on the heels of earning his first Gold Glove from the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference coaches this spring. The Michigan City, Ind. native was the prototypical centerfielder for the Lakers and started all 50 games in the outfield. His impressive range allowed him to catch all 127 fly balls hit in his general direction for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
A second-team All-CCAC performer as well, Hayman's underrated arm gave him one assist when he threw out a runner trying to stretch a double into a triple on March 1 against Cornerstone. He also saved the Lakers numerous runs with his ability to provide support to the corner outfielders and relay the ball back into the infield in a timely ammner.
"Bryce's accomplishment is well deserved," Roosevelt baseball coach Jason Becker said. "He is one of the best player I've seen roam the outfield. He covered so much ground for us in the outfield and was a true leader in the field."
The first ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were recognized in 2007, making this the 17th year the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards have been presented (no awards were presented in 2020 due to COVID-19). The NAIA Baseball Coaches Association All-America Committee made the selections for the NAIA level, choosing the best nine fielders at each position for this prestigious honor.
