Lakers Baseball Places Five On NAIA Scholar-Athlete List
CHICAGO – Roosevelt baseball team had five student-athletes named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced Thursday.
It is the second consecutive honor for junior Nolan Boettcher as well as seniors A.J. Gliwa and Kyle Winston. Ben Compton and Bryce Hayman were named Scholar-Athletes for the first time in their Roosevelt careers as graduate students.
Boettcher made the most of his opportunities this season, batting .400 in eight games this season for Roosevelt with a home run and three RBIs. Hayman batted .306 and drove in 31 runs while earning Gold Glove honors for his defensive work in center field. Gliwa and Winston both came out of the bullpen this year as Winston made 11 appearances and Gliwa appeared 12 times. Compton finished the year strong, batting almost .400 over the final 12 games of the season while starting every game for the Lakers.
Per the NAIA, the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete programs recognize excellence in the classroom by NAIA-member student-athletes who are juniors or above in academic standing with a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Students must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at the institution.
