Trolls End Lakers' Season In CCAC Tournament
JOLIET, Ill. – Roosevelt's final NAIA season came to an end Friday in an elimination game against Trinity Christian at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament in Joliet.
The Trolls jumped out to an early lead then piled on the runs late for a 12-1 victory, eliminating the second-seeded Lakers in the process. Roosevelt (28-22) finished with six hits in the game with four of those belonging to Ben Compton and Luis Delgado, who both had two hits in the game.
Trinity Christian led 2-0 after the second inning then added two more in the fifth before the Lakers responded. Delgado launched a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to breathe some life into the Roosevelt offense. Compton followed with a single then advanced to second on a passed ball before being stranded there.
Delgado worked a one-out walk in the second inning before Compton flashed a single into right field, but a double play erased the threat. Delgado also hit a single in the fourth inning, and in the fifth inning, Sebastian Casillas hit an infield single with two outs.
Roosevelt's only other threat came in the seventh inning with the score still just 6-1 in favor of the Trolls. Sammy Estrada singled into center field then Jojo Mack followed with a walk before the Lakers recorded three straight outs to strand them. The Trolls then added a run in the seventh and five more in the eighth to close out the game.
The Lakers will begin next season as members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II.
