Noah Mathias Named CCAC Pitcher of the Week

CHICAGO – After tossing six innings of two-hit baseball last week, Noah Mathias was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 17-23, the league announced Tuesday.

Mathias didn't allow a run and struck out four batters in Roosevelt's 12-0 win over Calumet St. Joseph last Friday. The graduate student from LaPorte, Indiana retired the Crimson Wave in order three times in his six innings, and kept his poise despite some defensive mistakes behind him. The Lakers made two mistakes in the field, but Mathias was able to strand runners at second and third in the third inning and froze runners on second base in the second and fifth innings.

This is the second career weekly award honor for Mathias, who was also named the CCAC Pitcher of the Week in March 2022. He also becomes the fourth Lakers player to earn a weekly award this season, joining Bryan Green, Bryce Hayman and Diego Munoz. Roosevelt has now tied Olivet Nazarene for the most Player of the Week honors in the conference this season.

"Noah came to the field locked in and ready to compete," Roosevelt head coach Jason Becker said. "He threw a great game and I envision more of that coming as we hit the homestretch in the season. Noah grinds every start and he's been an important leader for us all year."
