RU Baseball’s Season Comes to a Close at the CCAC Baseball Tournament

JOLIET, Ill. – The season has reached the finish line for the fifth-seeded Roosevelt University baseball team as they bowed out of the double elimination CCAC Baseball Tournament with a 9-1 loss to the eighth-seed, Titans from Indiana University South Bend on Saturday, May 7 at Duly Health and Care Field.

The game began as a defensive battle, led by Kerry Zeese on the mound for Roosevelt. Neither team was able to get much going offensively, and Zeese exited the game with a 0-0 tie after pitching five scoreless innings and striking out four Titans. Kryzsztof Solis entered the game in relief in the sixth, continuing the strong pitching effort for the Lakers, retiring all three batters that he faced in the inning.

The Lakers threatened to start the seventh inning with a Jaylen Heard single and a Jonathan Salm walk, but were not able to capitalize, stranding two baserunners. In the bottom half of the inning, the Titans would break the tie and get on the board with two runs to take a 2-0 advantage. As it turned out, that was all they would need, but they added seven more insurance runs in the eighth to go ahead 9-0.

With three outs left in the ballgame, the Lakers would make one last rally as Jojo Mack and Salm each walked before Jesus Gomez flared one to right-center field, scoring Mack. However, Salm was tagged out trying to advance to third, ending the game and the season for the Lakers.
