Lakers Celebrate Senior Day With 4-1 Win Over Calumet St. Joseph to Sweep CCAC Conference Series

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Roosevelt University baseball team celebrated "Senior Day" with a 4-1 CCAC Conference win over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday, April 30 at Ozinga Field, sweeping the season series after also winning a doubleheader on Friday, April 29 by the scores of 20-6 and 5-2.  The Lakers close out the regular season with a 19-11 conference record and a 25-21 overall record this season.

In game one of the series on Friday, the Crimson Wave jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, but the Lakers scored 20 unanswered runs to put the game away.  Andrew Olszewski and Jonathan Salm both hit RBI singles and Hunter Darst drove in two runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Salm drove in another run in the third with Danny Holloway also bringing in a run with a base hit, while Darst brought in Holloway and Heinlein drove in Jojo Mack and Gutierrez with a double.  A 10-run fourth inning blew open the game with Bryan Fox leading the way with a three-run double.

The Lakers took a 1-0 lead in game two on Friday with Mack walking, stealing second, and scoring on a ground out by Heinlein.  Calumet St. Joseph scored two runs in the next inning, but were held scoreless the rest of the way.

Roosevelt trailed until the sixth inning when it scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead.  Olszewski singled to score Darst and McAlister, while Olszewski also scored on a passed ball later in the inning.  The Lakers added an insurance run with Mack scoring on an error in the seventh for an RU 5-2 lead.

After three scoreless innings in Saturday's game, the Lakers took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning on solo homeruns by Heinlein and Olszewski.  The Crimson Wave cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning on two hits.

The Lakers added single runs in the sixth and ninth innings for the 4-1 win.  Bryan Fox drove in McAlister in the sixth and Mack hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Luca Paolucci in the ninth.
