Lakers Win Game One & Drop Game Two of CCAC Conference Doubleheader Versus Trinity Christian

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Roosevelt University baseball team split a CCAC Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 19 versus Trinity Christian College, defeating the Trolls 11-4 in game one and losing the second game by the score of 7-4.  The Lakers are now 11-11 in the CCAC and 17-21 overall this season.

Trinity Christian took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one and would hold that lead until the fifth inning when the Roosevelt offense erupted.  The Lakers scored three runs in the fifth and four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to blow open the game.

Jojo Mack and Daniel Gutierrez led off the fifth with back-to-back doubles and Hunter Darst followed with a base hit to make it a 2-1 game.  Trevor Heinlein then reached on an error and Sean Blanchard singled to load the bases with Nick McAlister earning a walk to score Darst for the third run.

The sixth inning started with Andrew Olszewski being hit by a pitch and Mack walking, and both runners scored on an error with Gutierrez reaching on a fielder's choice.  Heinlein singled up the middle to bring in Gutierrez and Heard followed with a double to right center to score Heinlein.

Jonathan Salm singled to lead off the seventh inning, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Jesus Gomez base hit.  After a Gutierrez single, Darst followed with a base hit of his own to score Gomez and a Heinlein fielder's choice drove in Gutierrez.  Jaylen Heard and Blanchard then hit back-to-back singles to score Heinlein with the Lakers 11th run of the game.

In the second game of the day, the Lakers took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning.  Darst walked, advanced to third on a Heinlein single, and scored on a Heard base hit.  However, the Trolls answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and four more runs in the second to take a 6-1 lead.

Roosevelt got back into the game with a three-run third inning to cut the margin to 6-4.  Heinlein singled home Gutierrez, who was hit by a pitch, and McAlister drove in Darst, who singled earlier, and also Heinlein.  Unfortunately, the Lakers could not get another run across the plate, while the Trolls added a solo run in the fifth for the 7-4 win.
