Lakers Blow Out Lincoln 16-1 to Earn CCAC Conference Baseball Victory

CRESTWOOD – The Roosevelt University baseball team put on an offensive display in a 16-1 seven-inning CCAC Conference victory over Lincoln College on Thursday, March 31 at Ozinga Field.  With the win, the Lakers raised their conference record to 4-2 and their overall record to 10-11 on the year.

The Lakers scored their first run in the bottom of the opening inning when Hunter Darst scored on a passed ball after reaching on a walk earlier in the inning.  However, the Lynx came back to tie the game in the top of the second inning on two walks and a base hit, but that would be the end of their scoring with RU starting pitcher Chris Miller shutting them out for the next four innings.

Roosevelt blew open the game in the bottom of the second inning with six runs on four hits and an error.  Jojo Mack drove in Tom Sabo and Jesus Gomez with a double down the left field line, and Jaylen Heard then hit a single to center field to bring in Hunter Darst and Mack.  Another two runs came home after an Andrew Olszewski double to center field, scoring Heinlein and Heard.

In the fourth inning, the Lakers added to their lead with two more runs after Mack stole third and scored on a throwing error on the play and Heinlein, who had walked, scored on a Heard ground out.

The Lakers continued their offensive outburst with a three-run fifth and a four-run sixth inning.  Heinlein singled home Darst and Heard drove in Mack and Heinlein with a triple in the fifth inning.  In the sixth, Danny Holloway and Jimmy Cisneros both drove in a run with infield singles, while Luca Paolucci singled in Kerry Zeese and Diego Blanco scored on a fielding error during AJ Gliwa's at-bat to close out the scoring.
