Baseball Falls to Saint Xavier for First CCAC Conference Loss of the Year

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Roosevelt University baseball team lost its first CCAC Conference game of the season on Friday, March 25, falling to Saint Xavier University by the score of 17-5 in eight innings at Ozinga Field.  The loss dropped the Lakers overall record to 8-10 and their CCAC record to 2-1.

The game started promising for the Lakers, with the home team opening up a 3-0 lead after the first innings.  Jojo Mack singled to center field and found himself at third base after a Cougar error on the play, scoring a batter later on a sacrifice fly by Nick McAlisterTrevor Heinlein then hit a base hit to center and Jaylen Heard drove him in with a triple to center field.  Heard crossed the plate for the 3-0 lead on a single up the middle from Andrew Olszewski.

The Roosevelt lead didn't last long as Saint Xavier came back to score five runs on four hits the next inning and knocking Lakers starting pitcher TJ Murray out of the game.  The Cougars took control of the game with another big inning in the fourth, scoring four more runs for a 9-3 lead, and then blew open the game with a three-run seventh and five-run eighth.
