Lakers Drop Games to Cornerstone 3-2 & Trinity Baptist 2-0 in Non-Conference Baseball Action

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Roosevelt University baseball team dropped a pair of games on Friday, March 4 on its Florida trip, losing to Cornerstone University (Mich.) by the score of 3-2 and to Trinity Baptist College (Fla.) by the score of 2-0 at Northeast Regional Park.  The losses dropped the Lakers overall record to 2-8 on the year.

RU VS CORNERSTONE GAME RECAP

The first four innings of the game were scoreless before both teams got solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings.  For the Lakers, Jojo Mack singled home pinch runner Danny Holloway in the fifth inning and Trevor Heinlein doubled in Diego Gutierrez in the sixth.

After a scoreless seventh and eighth inning, Cornerstone pushed across the game-winning run on three hits off RU reliever Issac Riegler to secure the win.  Unfortunately, the Lakers were retired in order in the final three innings of the ballgame.

  • Kerry Zeese started the game on the mound & went five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts

RU VS TRINITY BAPTIST RECAP

Trinity Baptist scored the game's first run in the third inning on one hit and that would be the only run the Eagles would need as the Lakers were unable to generate any runs. 

Roosevelt did threaten in the seventh inning, loading the bases with no outs, but the next three batters were retired to end the inning.  The Eagles added an insurance run in the top of the bottom of the eighth inning for the 2-0 final score.
